NYC Rise Scholarship for Kindergarten Students

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

The NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program provides families, schools, and communities with a way to work together to save for their children’s futures. It’s a scholarship and savings program designed to make college and career training more accessible and achievable for all NYC public school students, starting in kindergarten—regardless of their family’s income or immigration status.

By providing upfront scholarships for every eligible student, tools and information for families to develop their own college and career savings plans, and a way for entire communities to invest in their children, the Save for College Program enables all of us to work together to build assets and support expectations of educational and economic success for every child.

If eligible, your child will be automatically enrolled in the Save for College Program unless you choose not to participate. You do not have to do anything to enroll and receive a free NYC Scholarship Account. If you do not wish to participate please visit the NYC Department of Education website for more instructions.

Below is a link to the DOE's website with more information on the program. Also attached is a Youtube video detailing the program.

All DOE kindergarten students are eligible to join the Save for College Program and receive an allocation of $100 in an NYC Scholarship Account; all schools with kindergarten classes are required to ensure families are aware of the program. Parents/guardians have the opportunity to opt out of the scholarship account portion of the program starting in November. Parents who wish to opt out must do so within the NYC Schools Account(Open external link) OR return a signed opt-out form to their child’s school for data entry into ATS within a defined 30- day period.
