Mr Baksh's 603 Math Class - 603 Math

  • September 7th 2017

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome!  Sixth grade is an exciting time filled with many new and exciting experiences for your child.  In math, we will be learning new skills and participating in interesting and rigorous activities.  Our classroom community is:

    -        a safe, equitable, environment where students feel safe taking academic risks

    -        an environment of high expectations—students will be challenged and expected to perform at their best!

    -        a respectful environment—students will be motivated, inspired, and build strong character.

The relationship between parents and teachers is vital to the success of all students.  Consequently, I am asking you to write a brief letter or email describing your child.  Please include information that will allow me to gain a perspective of your child, not only as a student, but also as an individual.  This information will be invaluable in helping me to understand your child’s strengths and areas for growth.   Please include in this letter your contact information (name, email, and phone number).  My email is: rbaksh2@schools.nyc.gov

    Our Class Contract:

In our efforts of maintaining a rigorous, safe, and equitable classroom, I have created 4 classroom rules that are both simple and effective!  All students are required to:

    1.     Listen and follow directions

    2.     Raise hands before speaking or leaving seats

    3.     Respect classmates and teachers

    4.     Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself

    Consequences: 1-2-3-4-5

    1.     Verbal Warning

    2.     Teacher/Student Conference

    3.     Parental Contact

    4.     Teacher/Parent/Student Conference

    5.     Teacher/Parent/Student/Administrator Conference

    Grading Policy:

    Tests/Quizzes                                       60%

    Classwork/Math Labs                            15%

    Homework                                           10%

Projects                                               10% (One per marking period)

    Notebooks                                            5%

I look forward to having a productive school year.  I leave you with two quotes that personifies my educational philosophy.

“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.” –Margaret Mead

“It takes a village to raise a child.” –African Proverb

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Baksh (6th Grade Math)
