Cell Phone Policy
POLICY FOR USE OF CELL PHONES, COMPUTING DEVICES, AND PORTABLE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY
Students are permitted to bring the following electronic items to school:
1) cell phones; 2) laptops, tablets, iPads and other similar computing devices (“computing devices”). However, these items may not be turned on or used anywhere in the school building without explicit approval from a teacher or staff member where there is a clear instructional purpose for the use of such items. In addition, permission for use of any of the items outlined above may be granted by a staff member to facilitate contact with a parent or guardian as the need arises.
Any student found in violation of this policy will be subject to the following which will be instituted in a progressive fashion where appropriate:
Student will be directed to turn off the device and put it away and may be assigned lunch or after school detention.
Student’s device will be confiscated, secured in the main office and returned at the end of the day. Student will be assigned lunch or after school detention.
Student’s device will be confiscated, secured in the main office and returned following a parent conference. Parent will be notified prior to the student leaving for the day that the device was confiscated. Student will be assigned lunch and or after school detention or may be subject to suspension.
Student’s device will be confiscated and returned following parent conference and student entering into a behavioral contract. Student will be subject to suspension.
Student’s privilege to bring item to school will be revoked. Student will be subject to suspension.
In addition to the above, students who use cell phones, computing devices, and/or portable music systems in violation of any provision of the DOE’s Discipline Code, the school’s policy, Chancellor Regulation A-413, and/or the DOE’s Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (“ISUSP”) will be subject to discipline in accordance with the guidance interventions and disciplinary responses set forth in the Discipline Code.
This policy extends to students enrolled in programs before and after school and on any school sanctioned field trip, sporting event, competition, etc
