What's A Class Parent?
A Class Parent helps facilitate communication between parents, teachers, school administration and the PTA during the school year. This is a school year long commitment. You need to know how to work with many personalities, relate to the students, run projects, organize volunteers, collect donations, etc. You need to be comfortable when things don’t go according to plan and learn to live with a PINTEREST addiction. It might be challenging but the rewards will far out weight the challenges. You will get to connect with your child and their teachers and as well as meet other parents in the PS/IS 49 community
The responsibilities of a class parent are (but not limited to):
- Distribute information from the PTA and the school to class parents via email/text
- Create and maintain a class list
- Organize volunteers and donations for class parties
- Help with field trips, if needed.
- Help with donations to the classroom
- Help build a sense of community in PS/IS 49.
*All responsibilities are at the discretion of individual teachers.
Every September, the PTA will reach out to parents asking for volunteers. This is a great way to become involved in your child’s class and school. When class parents are chosen they will receive information about the school policies, guidelines for the PTA Class Parent Program and have an opportunity to ask questions at the class parent meeting(s).
We look forward to implementing this program for the 2018-2019 school year!
