What is the School Leadership Team?
School Leadership Teams (SLTs) are school-based organizations composed of an equal number of parents and staff. They meet at least once a month, and determine the structure for school-based planning and shared decision-making.

    SLT Members:
SLTs must include as mandatory members: the school principal, the PTA president (or designee), the UFT chapter leader, and an equal number of parents and staff.

What is the SLT’s role in our school?
The core responsibility of the SLT is to develop the school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP) that is aligned with the school-based budget. SLTs are strongly encouraged to solicit input from various school community constituencies in order to ensure that all voices are heard regarding the needs of students. Functioning in a collaborative manner, SLTs also help to evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s educational programs and their impact on student achievement.

    Who can attend SLT meetings?
All SLT Meetings are open and non-SLT members are welcome to observe. Observers will be allowed to ask questions upon recognition by the Chairperson provided questions were submitted in writing prior to the meeting (in accordance with bylaws).

How do I become updated on the outcomes of SLT meetings?
SLT Members believe an informed parent body is a strong parent body and we are committed to sharing all pertinent updates and meeting outcomes at the monthly PTA meetings. However, if you have questions or comments you would like addressed beforehand, feel free to contact the PTA at or the SLT chairperson.

How do I join our school’s SLT?
Parent members of the SLT are nominated and voted in by the school’s PTA parent body. Elections for next school year’s SLT will be in the Spring 2018.
