Attendance is taken daily at 8:20 am. A major factor in determining your child’s success in school is attendance. Your child will be marked absent if they are not in school for at least one period. Schools can mark an absence as “excused” for religious reasons, illness, or some other reasons, but they are still absences and must be part of the student’s record.
School starts at 8:15 am and attendance is taken at 8:20 am. Children arriving at school after 8:20 am are considered late. Please cooperate with having your child arrive on time. Work begins promptly after arrival, so lateness means your child misses critical instruction and also disrupts the teacher and other students as work begins.
After each absence, a note signed by a parent, detailing the reason for the absence, must be given to the child’s teacher. If the child was seen by a doctor, please provide that note as well. If you do not submit a note, the absence is unexplained.
You must provide a doctor’s note detailing the injury and any accommodations needed if your child contracts a serious illness or sustains an injury necessitating a cast, boot, sling, crutches, etc. When your child returns to school and/or no longer needs crutches, etc. a doctor’s note including a phrase “can return to school” and detailing any restrictions (e.g. “no gym” or “resume to full activity”) should be submitted.
If your child will be absent for 5 or more days, please contact the main office. Documentation must be provided. Students with 90% attendance have missed one month of school by the end of the year. Students with less than 90% attendance are more likely to have lower test scores. Please consider this when planning family vacations. Please submit airline tickets when leaving the country.
EARLY PICK UP
Please arrange appointments after school hours whenever possible. If you do need to pick up your child early, be advised that a picture ID must be presented to the security agent upon arrival. Your child will be released only to individuals whose name appears on the blue emergency contact card. Be aware that children will not be released after 2:20. At that point, we request that you wait for dismissal. This is for your child’s safety.
Please make every effort to have your child attend school and be on time each day. Any attendance questions can be emailed to Ms. Gina at firstname.lastname@example.org.
